    Sustainability/CSR/ESG

    At Seafood Collaborators, we have hands-on experience across different countries and aspects of the supply chain. Our team has assisted organizations in SE Asia, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America on a broad range of topics. Below are just a few examples.

    India, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Chile, US, UK, Canada etc.

     

    Certification = conducted numerous certification audits for fishing vessels, farms, hatcheries, feed mills and primary and value-added plants against various environmental and social standards such as MSC COC, BAP, ASC, SMETA and BSCI.

     

    Consultation = Worked with farms, plants, feed producers, associations and more (catfish, salmon, tilapia and shrimp) identifying gaps in social responsibility, biosecurity, sediment control and other sustainability/CSR/ESG issues. Including recommended corrective actions to non-conformities.

     

    Explored opportunities to joint venture on certification opportunities to open up markets with government entities such as MPEDA, VASEP and the Thai DOF.

    Implemented new business development strategies, financial management, revenue streams and other change management approaches for struggling firms or departments to boost: 

     

    growth, profits, cash flow, revenue/customer diversification, marketing, new product and service lines, strategic planning, team building and employee/customer retention.

    Certification = Conducted BRC and SQF audits. At the invitation of producers and associations, annually performed certification audits verifying compliance with US HACCP and other seafood regulations. 

     

    Consultation = Performed on-site consultative assessments, providing advice on food safety, GMPs, food defense, sanitary and allergen controls, and other regulatory requirements to help facilitate export trade and ensure ongoing compliance. (Yellowtail, tilapia, scallops, salmon and shrimp.)

    Thailand, US, Russia etc.

     

    Collaborated with sales and plant management in Thailand to: convert a portion of their factory to produce new species and product forms, develop new value-added product lines for retail, and a potential joint venture with an RAS farm.

     

    Consulted in the US on plant design for a closed-containment aquaculture start-up.

     

    Worked with individual fishermen and fishing fleets in Russia and across Alaska on vessel design, fish handling and quality criteria to maximize shelf life, yields and product value to open up market opportunities. (Salmon, raw and cooked crab, cod, halibut, black cod and pollock). 

     

    Designed and implemented a grant funded, state-wide Alaska salmon quality program at the plant, gill net, beach set net and tender levels on raw material handling, vessel design, new value-added production techniques, grading and inspection in cooperation with state and local governments. Trained local managers to carry the program forward. (Chignik, Cordova, the Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak and Bristol Bay).

    Australia, Turkey, Scotland, Indonesia, China, Chile, India, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Ecuador, US, Canada etc.

     

    Conducted training for retailers, food service, importers, trade associations, processors, farmers and auditors on best practices, food safety, hygiene, human trafficking, bonded labor, child labor, other social issues, allergens, bioterrorism, quality management and other topics.

     

    Traveled internationally to speak at trade shows, panels, working groups, industry associations and for individual companies on global markets, sustainability, third party standards, best practices and more.
